One can place bets from the privacy of the home using the internet. Scores of off-shore sportbooks have sprung up in recent years. There is a wealth of information out there for the public. There is the explosion of sports radio, with constant scores and information being broadcast. There are great TV packages, whether it be cable or satellite, that allow subscribers to watch virtually any game. Newsstands sell all kinds of magazines, newspapers, and stat sheets.

There are plenty of tout services, all willing to sell you their picks. I personally do not recommend tout services, but to each his own. Imagine what the totals would be if you include the internet and illegal gambling. The 2006 Super Bowl set a record of $95.5 million legally bet. It’s anybody’s guess what the totals are. Some estimates are up to $10 billion. All this makes sports gambling the number one form of gambling.

They don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. Governments are always looking for revenue streams and it may only be a matter of time before more states legalize it. There is a small percentage of compulsive gamblers who will never be satisfied, and will bet on anything. Compulsive gambling is not good. But then compulsive anything usually isn’t good. With gambling there is always the lure of easy money.
